shhhhh!

editorial design, 42 pages

2024

developed from a thesis during my past studies as a historian in heidelberg, shhhhh! brings together editorial design with academic research. the thesis researches three distinct post ww2 trials of nazi perpetrators and it examines how a nation relates to its past, responsibility and collective memory. the thesis also explores why the judicial system of post-war germany failed to prosecute so many perpetrators and how former members of the nsdap remained part of the "reformed" justice system.

through colors and typography often associated with the german past, as well as large empty spaces between prargraphs and chapters, this magazine reflects on absence, the fractured remembrance and the spaces, our horrible past has left behind.
